The article substantiates the relevance of timely detection, assessment and analysis of strategic gaps as one of the main ways to fulfill and achieve strategic goals on the example of analyzing the strategy for the development of the chemical and petrochemical complex in Russia. An algorithm for the analysis of strategic gaps and their evaluation is formed and outlined, each of the listed steps is characterized. The ways of possible increase in the efficiency of the functioning of the chemical and petrochemical complex of Russia with the timely application of the proposed methodology are demonstrated.
